Pravara Rural College of Pharmacy was started in 1981-82 when Diploma in Pharmacy course was started as one of the seven disciplines in Padmashri Dr.Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Institute of Technology & Engineering (Polytechnic) at Pravaranagar. The permission to start this course was given by the Government of Maharashtra on NoGrant basis. But soon, looking at its excellent progress the State Government has made this course as grant-in-aid.Degree Course in Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) was then instituted On the same campus as College of Pharmacy with the permission of

State Government in 1987-88 on no-grant basis with a view to meet the demands of rural area as well as to develop Pharmaceuticpl industry in this rural area. This is the only institution in Ahmednagar district and third of its kind under University of Pune.

The College has four major departments viz. (i) Pharmaceutis (ii) Pharmaceutical Chemistry (iii) Pharmacology and (iv) Pharmacognosy.

To minimise the gap between institute and Pharmaceutical industry the students are placed for training in Pharmaceutical concerns of repute. This training is compulsory. The institute is also arranging lectures of eminent persons from industry as well as of Pharmaceutical and allied fields to update the know-how of the student and teacher community. The students are also sent on industrial visits
which is planned in such a way that they can attend the National Pharmacy conference to further update their know-how.
